Salamence lets out a low growl as he lays down. Mikani grips her arm tighter and says through clenched teeth, "I think the sooner we started purifying him the better."

"Yes, of course......Professor Maple perhaps you would best be a worthy adversary to this Salamence. I do assume you brought your partners with you."

"I have. Would you care to try yourself against my Gyarados and I?"

"I have a feeling that this is going to hurt." Mikani thinks silently as she looks at Professor Maple and grins. "Sure."

"That sounds fine with me. Gyarados could use a good battle; its been a while. Now don't underestimate us based on that alone. I've spent thirteen long years training it to this point. It's my cherished partner."

"I hadn't planned on it. Plus this is a great way for me to see if Salamence will warm up to the idea of me being his trainer."

"Professor Krane, please lead us to the battle grounds and we'll begin."

"Absolutely, Professor Maple. This way," Professor Krane led them to the back of his lab, "I'll referee the match as well as being here for you to ask any questions. You may also direct them to Professor Maple."

"Though Professor Krane is the specialist when it comes to Shadow Pokemon so you'd be better off directing your queries to him."

Mikani looked at both professors and nods. "Thank you for the help." She looks at Salamence. "Are you ready for this?" Salamance looks at Mikani curiously due to the fact that he doesn't know if this is a good idea. Mikani places her hand on Salamence's head and says gently, "I don't care if we lose. Just do your best." Salamence roars as he has been itching to battle for a while.

"Alright, Gyarados. Front and Center!"

Gyarados' head rose above its coiled body as it reared to face its opponent.

Salamence gives a low growl as Mikani faces Maple and says, "Go easy on Salamence okay?" Mikani touches her right arm lightly, bracing herself for the pain that is to come if Salamence gets injured.

Maple realized that the pain that Pokemon endured in battle would probably break a human so she threw something at Mika from across the way, "I want you to BITE into the tablet. It is a painkiller, the more you bite into it the more potent the painkiller it releases. It should dim the effect of the battle. Going easy on Salamence won't help it but I am not without sympathy; we will not be cruel opponents."

Mikani catches the tablet and says, "Thanks." She places the tablet inside her mouth between her cheek and teeth. "Ready when you are."

It roared savagely in the affirmative.

Mikani nods and says, "Alright Salamence, use Shadow Rush."

"Gyarados, use Aqua Tail," it reared its tail and slamed it against the water to send the stream into its attacking opponent. In the midst of the water buffeting Salamence it dove into the water and out of view.

Mikani squeezes her arm as a little pain begins to shoot it. "Salamence, use fly." Salamence takes off into the air.

"Gyarados, use Aqua Tail," it reared out of the water and splashed a torrent of water from the end of its tail at Salamence.

"Salamence dodge it and use Thunder Fang." Salamence flies out of the way of the water attack and bites Gyarados's tail with it's electric teeth.

Gyarados roared in pain. Maple eyes flashed, "Gyarados, use Thunderbolt."

Gyarados retaliated using Salamence's attack to recoil it with an electric attack of its own, "Now shake it off!! Iron Tail."

Gyarados dove back for the bottom and flung its tail around towards the bridge with Salamence attached allowing Salamence to either sustain damage by holding on or letting go.

Mikani feels a shocking pain course through her arm as she sees Gyarados trying to slam Salamence into the bridge. "Salamence let go of Gyarados's tail and use Aerial Ace."

"Spin and dive, Gyarados," Gyarados spun and miss the brunt of its attack being hit by a single wing before diving back beneath the water to safety. Gyarados rose to the surface and eyed the Pokemon up in the sky, "Do it! Ice Beam."

Gyarados opened its maw to show a dangerous shining beam that snake through the air after its target showing that Gyarados didn't only have command over close combat, it was also able to exhibit ranged combat.

"Salamence use Hyper Beam to counter it." Salamence opens his mouth and a ball of light begins to form and grow bigger with each second passing by.

The two beams collided in midair and had explosive results but once the smoke cleared Gyarados was gone again. It wasn't in the water though but rather in the sky having used Bounce to propel itself into the air ABOVE Salamence, "Use Dragon Pulse," Gyarados entire body was enveloped by the Dragon Pulse and it slammed into Salamence with such a force that both of them ended up shattering a platform and falling into the water. During the stress of this turn Salamence finally entered Reverse Mode for the first time, "Perfect," Maple said.

Professor Krane turned to Mikani, "Mika, Salamence has entered a period of personal strain in the midst of this battle. It might sound strange or foolish but at this point hearing the trainer voice calling out to it allows the Pokemon to pull out of this state of berserking. No doubt Maple has been trying to pull Salamence to this point to exhibit this."

Mikani falls down onto one knee as the pain from the fall. Mikani looks into the water, directly at the spot Salamence feel into, and shouts his name. "Salamence!" Salamence opens his eyes as he hears Mikani's voice. He shoots out of the water like a bullet and lands on a platform. He shakes the water off of his body. He looks at Mikani as if he is saying let's continue this. Mikani nods and says, "Salamence use Thunder fang on the water."

"Gyarados, get out of there! Bounce," again it propelled itself back up upon the platforms holding a small charge, "Rest, Gyarados."

The Pokemon curled up on the platform and started to sleep, only to be roused a moment later by Maple calling it, "Non shadow Pokemon can break out of sleep and confusion by responding to calling as well. Gyarados, let's finish this."

It roared in agreement, "Dragon Dance!"

Mikani calls out to Salamence, "Use Shadow Claw." Salamence flies toward Gyarados with his claw glowing.
